Polishing 3-stage
Our full three-stage paint correction: cutting, polishing and finish. Removes most scratches and wash marks and gives a gloss close to that of a new car.
About the treatment
How we do it
There comes a point where a car can no longer be washed pretty. The paint has gone dull on the bonnet and roof, where the sun sits. The swirls from years of automatic car washes lie like a net across every angle. Under streetlight you see rings around every light source. A wash changes nothing, a wax changes it for three weeks, and you have started to think that this is simply what a twelve-year-old car looks like.
That is the situation the three-stage paint correction is built for.
What we actually do
Three stages does not mean three rounds of the same thing. It means three different jobs, in sequence, each one clearing up after the last.
Preparation. Hand wash using the two-bucket method, chemical iron removal with dwell time, tar and adhesive residue remover on all lower surfaces, clay bar across the whole car, full degreasing. We then measure paint thickness systematically — panel by panel, with extra attention to edges, wheel arches and panels that may have been repainted after damage. We record what we find, and we tell you.
Test area. One panel is trialled first, so that pad and compound are chosen based on how your paint actually behaves — not on what usually works.
Stage 1 — cutting. The heaviest pad-and-compound combination goes to work on the deeper scratches, the oxidation and the dull patches. The goal here is not gloss, but an even base.
Stage 2 — polishing. The intermediate stage that removes the cutting stage's own marks and starts building the depth back.
Stage 3 — finish. Soft pad, fine compound, light pressure, slow movements. This is the stage that gives reflections sharp edges and the colour its wet-look depth. Without it, the paint would look sharp in shadow and hologrammed in sunlight.
Between each stage the panel is wiped down and checked under LED light from at least three angles. We mask trim, badges, rubber and matte plastic throughout the job. At the end, protection is applied, the glass is washed, the tyres are dressed, and we walk round the car together with you.
Why it pays off
The clear coat is the car's skin. Once it is covered in micro-scratches, UV radiation, road salt and acid rain have far more edges to work from, and oxidation accelerates with every year. A corrected paint finish resists this better, and — just as important — holds wax or coating considerably longer, because the protection sits on an even surface instead of bridging a cratered landscape.
Three-stage is also the only job that truly changes how an older car is perceived. It does not look new because it is clean. It looks new because the surface reflects light correctly again.
How often should you have it done?
Rarely — and that is the point. A full three-stage correction is normally done every two to three years, or just once, if the result is protected with a coating and the car is hand-washed afterwards. Every polishing stage takes a little clear coat, and clear coat does not come back.
How long does it take?
Around 12 hours of work, which we normally spread over two days. We need dry weather, shelter and power — a garage or carport is ideal.
See available times and book 3-stage polishing — or read about ceramic coating, which includes the three stages.

What people ask
What does 3-stage polishing cost?
Kr 6 499 for a small car as a fixed price. SUV adds 30%, van 40%. You see the price for your car size in the booking before you pay.
When is three stages right, and when is it too much?
Three stages is right when the paint has deep wash marks, oxidation or dull patches — typically a dark-coloured car aged five to fifteen years that has lived through automatic car washes. If the paint is only slightly dull, [2-stage](/bil/polering-2-trinns) is enough, and we will say so. We do not sell a stage the paint does not need.
Can all paint withstand three stages?
No. That is why we measure paint thickness panel by panel before we start, not just as a spot check. If a panel has been repainted or has thin clear coat on the edges, it is treated more gently or not at all — and you are told which panels that concerns.
Should I apply coating afterwards?
It is worth considering. A freshly corrected paint finish is at its most vulnerable, and wax lasts 3–4 months. If you choose [ceramic coating](/bil/keramisk-coating) at kr 8 999, the three stages are included in that price — so it is more expensive to do both separately.
How long does it take, and does the car need to stay at my place the whole time?
Around 12 hours of work, which we normally spread over two days. The car stays at your place the whole time — we come to it. We need shelter and power, and we do not start a stage we cannot finish the same day.
