Move-out cleaning

Handover is at 12 noon on Friday. The landlord arrives with a sheet of paper, and on that sheet are points you have not thought about since you moved in: the top of the kitchen cabinets, the skirting behind the door, the filter in the extractor fan, the rubber seal in the fridge, the drain in the bathroom. You have already spent two evenings cleaning. You still do not know if it is enough, and you know that if it is not enough, it will be deducted from the deposit — and that the amount is not for you to decide.

That uncertainty is exactly what our move-out cleaning is built to remove.

What we actually do

A move-out cleaning is not simply a thorough regular clean. It is a systematic review of the entire property, in a fixed order, measured against what is actually checked at handover.

Top to bottom, room by room. Ceiling, walls where needed, skirting, door leaves, door frames, switches and sockets. It is the edges and transitions that give away a clean — the top of a door frame, the underside of a skirting board, the groove where the wall meets the floor.

The kitchen, which is half the job. Inside, on top of and underneath all cabinets and drawers, including the empty ones. Worktops and grout. The extractor fan with the filter removed and washed. The hob, and the oven inside with racks, trays and the glass in the oven door. Fridge and freezer inside, including seals and drip tray. Behind and underneath appliances where they can be pulled out — that is where a landlord looks first, because that is where most people have not looked.

The bathroom, where most disputes arise. Full limescale removal on shower screens, fittings, basin and tiles. The grout is gone through. The drain is opened, emptied and cleaned. Vents are taken down, washed and put back. The toilet, including behind and underneath.

Windows on the inside, including frames, glazing bars, drainage channels and hinges. The floors last, in every room, including storage room and hallway.

The final check. We go through the property ourselves, list in hand, before locking up. It is the last step, and it is what allows us to offer the guarantee with confidence.

Why it pays off

The sums are simple to lay out. A move-out cleaning of 70 m² costs kr 6 090 with us. A deposit deduction for an inadequate clean is typically higher than that, and you are negotiating from a weak position: the key has been handed over, you have moved out, and the other party already has your money.

The other factor is time. Two evenings with cloths after a moving day, while you still have unpacking to do in the new home, is the most expensive clean you can do — even when you are not paying for it in kroner.

How often should you have it done?

Once per move — but book it early. Handover dates cluster around the 1st and the 15th of the month, and those days fill up first. We need the property emptied, with electricity and water switched on.
