Exterior and interior wash

Hand wash outside, drying and vacuuming inside — completed wherever the car is parked. We wash by hand using the two-bucket method, so the wash does not leave behind the scratches you would later have to polish out.

About the treatment

How we do it

The car has been standing outside since October. There is a grey film on the paint that will not come off in the rain, salt in the door sills, grit in the footwell, and a layer of dust on the dashboard that you only notice when the sun is low. You could stop by an automatic wash on the way home — but the brushes there move from car to car without being rinsed clean, and the sand from the car ahead of you is exactly what creates the fine circular scratches you later pay to have polished out.

Our standard wash is the alternative: two buckets, a microfibre wash mitt, and a couple of hours at your home while you do something else.

What we actually do

We work from the outside in, and from top to bottom, so that dirt is never dragged upward across a surface we have already cleaned.

  1. The wheels first, while they are cold. Hot brake discs burn the chemicals in place before they have a chance to dissolve anything. That is why we start there, not where it looks nicest to start.
  2. Snow foam over the entire car. The foam is left for 5–7 minutes to loosen the road grime as it runs off. Nothing touches the paint at this stage — that is the entire point of it.
  3. High pressure. Foam and loose grit are rinsed off. By the time we are finished here, most of what could scratch the paint is already gone from the car.
  4. Hand wash using the two-bucket method. One bucket with soap, one with clean rinse water, and a grit guard in the bottom of both. The mitt is rinsed between every panel, so the sand sinks to the bottom instead of being dragged over the next door.
  5. Drying. Large microfibre towels over the surfaces, compressed air into mirror mounts, handles, trim edges and emblems — where water droplets would otherwise sit and dry into limescale marks a week later.
  6. Interior. Full vacuuming of seats, mats, footwells and boot, wiping down the dashboard, centre console, door panels and steering column, and window cleaning on both sides of the glass.

Be clear about what this is: a wash, not a deep clean. The interior work is wiping and vacuuming. Stains in the fabric, ingrained dirt in the seams and odours trapped in the textiles belong under interior deep clean.

Why it pays off

Road salt is not just unsightly — it is an electrolyte. Mixed with moisture, it turns paint damage, stone chips and edge rust into a process that moves faster than it otherwise would, and it moves fastest in door sills and under the trim, where you cannot see it. A wash every third week through winter rinses salt away from exactly those places.

Bird droppings and insect residue are more acidic than most people realise. On a warm bonnet surface, they can etch into the clear coat within a few days, and at that point it is no longer a wash that solves it, but polishing. The same goes for brake dust on the wheels: these are glowing iron particles that embed themselves in the wheel's paint, and which over time must be dissolved chemically rather than rinsed away.

How often should you have it done?

Every 3rd to 4th week during the winter season, November to March. Every 6th week the rest of the year. If the car stands under trees or near the sea in Tønsberg, keep to the shorter end of the interval — pollen, resin and salty air work all year round.

How long does it take?

2 to 2,5 hours for a small car, a little longer for SUVs and vans. We come to wherever the car is parked, bring equipment and chemicals, and let you know when we are finished.

Questions and answers

What people ask

What does a standard car wash cost with you?

Kr 1 100 for a small car. SUVs add 30 % and vans add 40 %, because the surfaces are larger and the job takes longer — you see the price for your car size in the booking before you pay. Driving outside the free 5 km zone is added at 20 kr per kilometre, also shown before payment.

Why is hand washing better than an automatic wash?

The brushes in an automatic wash move from car to car without being rinsed clean. The sand from the car ahead of you gets dragged across your paint, and that is what creates the fine circular scratches you see in low sunlight. We rinse the wash mitt in clean water between every panel, so the grit settles in the bucket instead of on the car.

Can you wash the car when it is raining?

Yes. Rain does not affect the wash itself, only the drying phase — and we handle that with microfibre and compressed air. If there is icing, strong wind or below-freezing temperatures that freeze the water on the paint, we reschedule the appointment free of charge in agreement with you.

Do I need to be home while you wash the car?

No. Most people leave the car unlocked or leave the key, and do something else in the meantime. We just need access to the car and somewhere to stand. If you have neither outdoor water nor power nearby, note it in the comment field and we will get in touch before we arrive.

How often should the car be washed?

Every third to fourth week from November to March, while the road salt is out, and every sixth week for the rest of the year. The winter interval is what matters: salt left in place through an entire season attacks the underbody, brake lines and edges.
